School News 🗞️

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!

It was wonderful seeing so many of our families at Open House. We are so excited to kick off the year and see the amazing things our students accomplish.

Research consistently shows that when parents stay engaged in their teenager's education, students earn higher grades, adapt better socially, and are far more likely to pursue post-secondary education. While it is natural for junior and senior high school students to crave independence, parental involvement at this stage isn't about managing daily homework—it's about staying connected.

You can make a huge difference by:
  • Asking open-ended questions about their day
  • Attending school events
  • Checking online grade portals
  • Keeping an open line of communication with teachers

By taking these small steps, you send a clear message to your child: their education matters. Your active presence provides the safety net and encouragement teenagers need to navigate academic challenges and confidently plan for their futures.

As we begin this year, we encourage our students to strive for the six key attributes outlined in the NYS Portrait of a Graduate. We truly believe these skills will empower our students to succeed no matter what path they choose after graduation.

Picture Day INFO 📷

Picture day is this Tuesday, September 15th for all students and staff, grades 7-12. Please DO NOT wear green.

Check out this video from Jostens with tips for a better picture.

No order envelopes are necessary on picture day! Previews will be available on the Jostens site before you order. Retakes are in October if you are not satisfied with the first one.

INFO for SENIORS ONLY
Seniors MUST have a photo taken on picture day for the school. This photo is used for many things throughout the year (please dress to impress).

Seniors may submit photos from external, professional photographers for the Yearbook by submitting them directly to Jostens. Senior photos are due by 11/1/26. Guidelines and requirements are here.

Senior yearbook Ads may be purchased by parents/family of any senior. This is where you can add baby pictures, a message to the student and any other photos of them throughout the years. The information for this is here. 

Advanced Studies (AS) Course Information

We are excited to announce that for the upcoming academic year, the Medina Central School District will fully cover tuition costs for students enrolled in our Advanced Studies courses through Niagara University, SUNY Niagara, and Genesee Community College (GCC). This program offers our students an incredible opportunity to earn college credit and build their transcripts at no cost to your family.
To participate in this opportunity, please keep the following requirements in mind:
  • Registration Deadlines: Students must complete their course registration directly through the respective college or university by the established deadlines.
  • Certificate of Residency: For courses taken through SUNY Niagara or GCC, students must submit a valid Certificate of Residency alongside their registration.  (No certificate of Residency is required for Niagara University).  Mrs. Kyle is helping collect residency applications in room 118 through 9/18 for any students who need residency form assistance. 
  • Tuition Coverage Notice: Please note that if a Certificate of Residency is not submitted, families will be responsible for paying the tuition difference that results from non-resident rates.

Mustang Athletics

🗓️Up-to-date sports schedules can be found here.

A huge shoutout to our Mustang Sports Boosters for running our concession stand at home games.  Did you know that concessions are our BIGGEST fundraiser for our athletes?  Every dollar goes back to our student athletes.  Parents, please consider helping out.  Students are also welcome to sign up!  Click here to sign up.

Reminder to all students attending games: Students must be in school to attend events and eligible with grades/obligations.

ALL spectators and athletes are expected to follow the athletic handbook code of conduct while attending games.

From the Counseling Center 🏫

All students have the opportunity to change their course selections until the annual deadline of August 1st. Any requests after that date require an add/drop form with a parent signature and teacher signature. The deadline is two weeks after the start of class. No classes will be dropped after the first two weeks.

Please note:

A. There must be a pressing issue for you schedule to be changed. a. There was a mistake with my schedule. (ex. I already took this class.) b. The class conflicts with a class required for graduation.

B. Lunches, study halls, and PE cannot be changed.

C. You must maintain the credit minimum, 6 classes, plus Physical Education.

D. Course change requests based on the criteria above are also subject to be denied based on class size and course requirements.

Senior Corner
Throughout the next few weeks, the counselors will be going into English classrooms to present on everything seniors need to know about the college application process, career planning, financial aid, and preparing for life after high school! 

Starting in October, we will also be meeting with each senior individually to finalize career plans. We encourage students to come with any questions they may have!
