Student of the Month Winners for April 2021

The Medina Teachers Association, the Medina School District and the Medina Area Partnership are proud to announce the April selections for Students of the Month.  This award is a combined effort of these organizations to recognize students who go above and beyond to help teachers and fellow students succeed and enjoy school.

Bank of Castile has graciously sponsored the award for April. Due to the increased Covid concerns in our area, no presentations or prize ceremonies are occurring at this time. Honorees will receive their prizes and yard signs at a later date.  Check out a video honoring our winners at the end of this article.

Nominated by Kelsey Evoy and Andrea Patti of Oak Orchard, was kindergartener Avery Crooks.  Miss Evoy and Miss Patti shared that Avery is a hard worker both in person and virtually. She is responsible and attends every Google Meet, as well as getting her assignments done. She is also a kind and respectful friend to everyone in the classroom. I can always count on Avery to be a leader and a helpful friend to anyone new coming into the classroom.  She shows the pillars of the Medina Central School District everyday in school and out.

From Clifford Wise Intermediate/Middle School, Maria Lemme nominated one of her fourth grade students, Antonio Rizzo. When  Mrs. Lemme indicated her reasons for nominating Antonio, she shared that Antonio is one of the kindest boys that I have had the pleasure of working with. He always cares for others before himself and is always willing to help his classmates whenever he can. He exhibits daily habits that make him both a fantastic role model in the classroom and hard worker throughout the day. If something is too challenging, he always asks for help and is willing to do the work in order to be successful. His organization is impressive and his ability to stay focused throughout the day is remarkable!

From the High School,  Iyla Lilleby, a ninth grader, was nominated by Michele Crandall.  Mrs. Crandall reports that Iyla Lilleby exemplifies everything a Mustang should be.  She is insightful, thoughtful, and respectful.  She is always on time and prepared, always ready to share and contribute.  She works hard and has a positive attitude even when things are difficult. She is helpful and patient with her peers.    She is pushing herself to do the best she can and asks great questions that further her learning.  Iyla is an example to her peers and more than deserving of this recognition.  Iyla Lilleby is a compassionate and hardworking student. She always participates in class and follows up on her assignments when she is on virtual time. She brings a bright smile into the classroom. Iyla is always eager to engage in the lesson for the day and strives for better understanding of the material. Iyla definitely knows the meaning of hard work, integrity, and responsibility which will help her succeed in life. Iyla is a good representation of a Medina Mustang.

Congratulations to this month’s winners! The MTA, MCSD and the MAP will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored???
