Student of the Month Winners for March
The Medina Teachers Association, the Medina School District and the Medina Area Partnership are proud to announce the March selections for Students of the Month. This award is a combined effort of these organizations to recognize students who go above and beyond to help teachers and fellow students succeed and enjoy school.
English Rose Tea Shoppe has graciously sponsored the award for March. Due to the increased Covid concerns in our area no presentations or prizes ceremonies are occurring at this time. Honorees will receive their prizes and yard signs at a later date. Check out a video honoring our winners at the end of this article.
Nominated by Sue Lehman and Jamie Schechter of Oak Orchard was third grader Charlotte McGrath. Mrs. Lehman and Mrs. Schechter shared that as many know, getting up early for school, especially after being at home for several months, is no easy achievement! As difficult as it can be, this task was even trickier for Charlotte. Still, Charlotte understands the importance of her education. For this reason, she did not allow her body to make the decision for her, but rather challenged her brain to accept her responsibilities as a student. While it took some time for Charlotte to adjust to 3rd grade, she has since done exceptionally well with her academics. She is a sensitive friend with a kind heart and she is determined to succeed! Her hard work paid off! Keep up the great work Charlotte!
From Clifford Wise Intermediate/Middle School, Sara Kyle nominated one of her fourth grade students, Skielair Montgomery. When Mrs. Kyle indicated her reasons for nominating Skielair, she shared that I do not know Skielair all that well, but I can say with 100% confidence that she is a radiant little girl. Though we are limited by masks, I can tell that she is often smiling behind it. I believe that everyone's day could be improved by seeing that little girl's smile. She is happy, she is kind, she is a good friend, she is an eager student, she is a perfectionist, she is optimistic. Skielair holds herself to incredibly high standards and she truly works hard to meet those standards. I believe this honor could brighten her day as she brightens the day of those around her.
From the High School, Hasan Qadour, an eighth grader, was nominated by Joe Byrne and Alesya Laspro. Mr. Byrne and Mrs. Laspro report that they are so proud of how Hasan has handled this challenging school year. Hasan struggles understanding the English language but he doesn’t let that stand in his way in completing his course work. The hard work ethic this young man possesses, makes up for any difficulties he may have overcoming a language barrier. He works hard at achieving his grades and always gives everything he has on his assignments. We’ve never heard him make an excuse for anything. On virtual days, he advocates for himself and contacts us if he has any questions on assignments. Hasan is such a polite and likable young man, he is an example for other students to follow.
Congratulations to this month’s winners! The MTA, MCSD and the MAP will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored???
