The Medina Teachers Association, the Medina School District and the Medina Area Partnership are proud to announce the December selections for Students of the Month. This award is a combined effort of these organizations to recognize students who go above and beyond to help teachers and fellow students succeed and enjoy school.
Creekside Floral has graciously sponsored the award for December. This month students are being honored with this article, a Certificate of Achievement from the Medina Teachers’ Association presented by President Joseph Byrne and Medina CSD Superintendent, Mark Kruzynski, presented a special pen and pencil. In addition, Creekside Floral representative Mary Lewis presented each of this month’s winners with a Christmas mug and a hot chocolate assortment.
Nominated by Travis Phillips of Oak Orchard was third-grader Antonio Rizzo. Mr. Phillips shared that Antonio is an excellent representation of our Mustang Mission at Oak Orchard. He was nominated by his teachers to be a member of the School Safety Patrol Team, and does a great job. He is always prepared for PE, always does his best in all of his classes and activities. Mr. Phillips also states that Antonio is courteous to his classmates, he puts others first, and is attentive and understands that we listen to others when they are speaking. Antonio assists others in need, Mr. Phillips has seen him help others up when they have fallen, helped younger students locate their bus and he always says the magic words "Please and Thank You".
From Wise Middle School, Jason Klein nominated one of his fifth grade students, Madeline Mark. When Mr. Klein indicated his reasons for nominating Madeline, he said she is a role model in all aspects. She has impeccable manners and is very well spoken. Everyday she comes in with a smile and asks how my day was. She is always the first one to do what I ask and helps others find what they need and get ready. Her hand is constantly raised to answer questions and add important insight to topics. She uses humor to lighten the mood when students are having a bad day. She is empathetic to others. I asked her if she wanted to be part of Student Council this year, and she told me that she was in it last year and wants someone else to have an opportunity to participate. I wish I had 22 other Madeline Mark’s in my classroom.
From the High School, Kayla Rosenbeck nominated a ninth grade student, Bryden McMurray. Mrs. Rosenbeck says that Bryden goes out of his way to help other students in the class, is always the first one to volunteer a helping hand, and is just a stand-up young man. For example, whenever I let students choose their own groups or partners, Bryden is always willing to join the student(s) that are not part of the popular group, or are always lacking a group. Additionally, a student dropped their binder the other day and Bryden was the first to ask if the student wanted help picking up papers, while other students around just stared. He is consistently polite, asks questions, and goes above and beyond to make sure he is doing what he can to be successful, both as a student and as a person.
Congratulations to this month’s winners! The MTA, MCSD, and the MAP will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year. Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months. Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program. Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored???
