The Medina Teachers Association, the Medina School District and the Medina Area Partnership are proud to announce the January selections for Students of the Month.  This award is a combined effort of these organizations to recognize students who go above and beyond to help teachers and fellow students succeed and enjoy school.

The Medina Area Partnership business of KG Ventures has graciously sponsored the award for January.  This month students are being honored with this article, a Certificate of Achievement from the Medina Teachers’ Association presented by President Joseph Byrne and Medina CSD Assistant Superintendent, Marc Graff, presented a special pen and pencil. In addition, KG Ventures  presented each of this month’s winners Valentine's gift bags with candy in them for the winners.

Nominated by Mollie Mark of Oak Orchard, was third-grader Cayla SeeverMrs. Mark shared that Cayla is a student that everyone can look up to. It is an honor that is earned by the student's good deeds, academic effort and respect for others. Cayla does many good deeds on a daily basis.  She is kind to everyone. She is always looking out for classmates who need a little extra help with a task.  She encourages her classmates to try their best even when something is difficult.  She is competitive but the first one to congratulate a classmate when they do a good job.  She loves to try new things and challenge herself.  She encompasses every positive quality we encourage in our students.  Academically, she completes all of her work with her best effort and neatness.  She loves to learn new things and is always ready to share in the class discussion.  She is very bright but you would never hear her brag about that in class.  She is respectful to every student and adult in our building.  Cayla is everything we want our Medina Mustangs to be.

From Wise Middle School, Morgan Brown nominated one of her fifth-grade students, Adam-James Horton.  When Miss Brown indicated her reasons for nominating Adam-James, she shared that he is an incredibly kind and caring boy.  I saw a perfect example of this when another boy was very emotionally distraught one day after school.  AJ noticed that the boy was in distress, and he made a point to help  comfort this boy and make him feel better.  I was very impressed with how thoughtful AJ was, and the boy who was in distress was quite appreciative as well.  It was clear that having a supportive peer made all the difference for him.  This interaction is characteristic of the friendly nature that AJ displays to his friends and classmates every day.

From the High School, Kaylee Lacey, a tenth grader, was nominated by Michele Crandall.  Mrs. Crandall shared the following about Kaylee.  She is very eager to understand all the material before moving on.  She puts in the extra effort and comes afterschool and encourages a friend to come as well to learn the material.  Kaylee takes pride in her work and tries to be very neat about  it.  She is a model student in the fact that she is quiet while the teacher is teaching, asks questions when needed and utilizes the extra class time to do her homework or projects.

Congratulations to this month’s winners! The MTA, MCSD, and the MAP will continue the student of the month program throughout the school year.  Be on the lookout for the next honorees in the coming months.  Look for posters in the windows of Medina businesses identifying them as proud supporters of this program.  Who will be the next outstanding Medina student to be honored???
