Reopening Plans for Fall 2020
UPDATES ON 8/16/2020- Deadline for choosing online or in-person learning extended until 8/21- Community meetings will be held as follows- August 17, 4:00 PM, Oak Orchard Elementary (Click HERE for Live Stream/Recording)- August 18, 6:00 PM (NEW TIME), Medina High School (Click HERE for Live Stream/Recording)- August 19, 4:00 PM, Wise Intermediate/Middle School (Click HERE for Live Stream/Recording)Dear Mustang Family,We are pleased to announce the Medina Central School District's plans for reopening school this fall.The District is Planning IN-PERSON education, every day, for students in grades Pre-K through 6. Classrooms have been reconfigured to allow for maximum social distancing.We simply do not have the space or staff for all students in grades 7-12 to be socially distant every day. Therefore, these students will attend school every other day, and on alternating Fridays, and participate in remote learning when they are not attending school. Students will be broken up alphabetically and will attend either Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday OR Tuesday, Thursday and every other Friday. Students identified as having higher level, disability-specific needs, will be invited to attend daily.All students will be required to wear cloth or surgical masks at school and on any school bus or van. If a student does not have a mask, we will provide one to any student who needs a mask.Based upon our earlier survey responses, we know that approximately 20% of our parents have expressed their desire to keep their children home, and participate in virtual learning throughout the year. Parents will have the option to have their students learn remotely during the upcoming year.All learning for the 2020-21 school year will be new learning, and will be graded based on the achievement of the NYS Learning StandardsThe Medina Central School District will provide a chromebook for any student that needs one throughout the district.The district will be asking all parents to carefully consider what is best for their children. After you have reviewed the school's plan, and had any questions you may have answered, we are asking you to tell us if you would like your child to attend school in-person for up to 5 days per week, or participate in complete virtual instruction You will be able to submit your either on our website (CLICK HERE), or by returning a form that you will receive in the mail by the middle of next week.
