    Hello, my most amazing artists!

Hello and welcome to our Oak Orchard art webpage!

Check out our latest "Artists to Know" on our Medina CSD webpage, anime-graffiti artist Lady Aiko and silhouette-mural artist, Kara Walker! Both of these women artists have a very special style in how they create art to showcase their important identity: what makes them who they are! I have also included a FLAT Mrs. Pavlak you can create with!

Locust Street Art Studio Virtual Classes

      Roger-Hello-graphic.jpg

Animation combines the skill and creativity of drawing with the movement and excitement of film. It can be silly, goofy and fun or enormously profound and serious. Simply put, like any other form of art, animation can be whatever you need it to be.

We’re dedicated to teaching students of all skill levels and backgrounds the foundations of animation.

Even if you’ve been painting and drawing for years, LSA has something to offer you.

Art is a uniquely rewarding form of self-expression, and it’s also been linked to the development of critical thinking and interpersonal skills, especially in children. If you’re looking for a program that will give your child a positive outlet for self-expression and also help them grow as a person, then our painting and drawing class might be for you. No matter what your child’s skill level or artistic aspirations might be, they’ll fit right in at Locust Street Art.

5/11-5/15: Hello, my most amazing artists!

This week's focus is going to "spiral" back to not only video games and pixel art, but we are going to continue talking about some really awesome contemporary street artists! I just learned about the street artist Invader, who is easily one of my new favorites! He is a "mix" of Jan Vormann with the "surprising" places he creates his graffiti pixel art, has a style like Jason Perry with the pixels, and is fun like Eric Joyner by focusing on "aliens and space"! Think back to our "May the 4th be with You" Star Wars Fun Night Theme! Super cool, right?! Check out the Medina COVID-19 webpage for more info about Invader, and Mrs. Pavlak's webpage for other new ideas and amazing artworks that get sent my way! You can always email me at lpavlak@medinacsd.org with photos of what you create this week!

    Pacman Guggenheim Invader

Check out our Pacman Ghost "Hide and Seek" ideas below:

Learning Target: I can create a pixelized ghost from Pacman using my favorite color and hide it somewhere in my house!

    You will need:

    Directions:

    • Create a Pacman pixelized ghost using the examples and templates. You can color the ghost your favorite color!

    • To create a "pixelized" effect, use the grid template OR one of the "stamp" ideas above!

    • Cut out ghost when dry CAREFULLY.

    • Hide ghost somewhere SURPRISING in your house. Have your family "seek" your ghost!

    • REPEAT and HAVE FUN!

    Artsonia Classroom Mode

PARENTS – Our school is offering a way for students to submit their artwork to their Artsonia portfolio from home.

Your child can use iPads or similar devices (or even a browser) to photograph their own artwork, make edits and enter artist statements - all on their own! The artwork will be reviewed by the art teacher prior to being published.

Download the Artsonia 6.0 app in the Apple or Android app store, then scan the Access Code below. (You can also go to www.artsonia.com/class on a browser and enter the access code manually if you don't have a compatible device.)

    Access Code: CXZS-PYYZ

You can view a short tutorial video by going to www.artsonia.com/videos/student-app

If you have any questions, please contact Artsonia at 800-869-9974 or info@artsonia.com

**NEW! ARTSONIA CLASSROOM MODE:** IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE, 2nd and 3rd grade students will be starting an Artsonia upload center! Students will be responsible for photographing, uploading, editing and designing an artist statement about each artwork they create! This is an amazing way to practice our digital skills, reflect on our creations and hard work, and to have a permanent digital portfolio of our artwork!

Please feel free to use ARTSONIA (*see instructions above), my instructional videos on this page (edited to inform you of which grade level each one is for to meet their curriculum needs) or the instructional video links provided below to continue creating at home during this unprecedented time!

YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE WELCOME TO CREATE AND UPLOAD AS MUCH ARTWORK AS YOU WOULD LIKE ONTO ARTSONIA, EVEN DRAWINGS THEY CREATE AT HOME, FOR ME TO SEE AND SHARE!

The following instructional videos are one of my favorite go-to "teachering" resources! The creator of them, Cassie Stephens, is an art teacher from Nashville, Tennesee who I find SO much inspiration from, either directly from her blog, online conferences, or instructional videos! Please check out some of her videos that the students and I have created from or have not yet created from. Check out her blogspot (https://cassiestephens.blogspot.com/) for more videos, but enjoy the ones I have included below! HAVE FUN!

About Me: Welcome to the Art Room! I am Lisa Pavlak, and I am thrilled to be teaching art at Oak Orchard Elementary here in Medina! I am looking forward to beginning my 11th year of teaching art, and my 3rd here with your children in Medina. I know we are going to have fun creating and learning together. I had a wonderful summer preparing for the BEST art year YET! We have so much to look forward to, including having our Medina student artists' K-12 artwork displayed at Buffalo's Albright-Knox Art Gallery this fall! In addition to the art part of my life, my family and I enjoyed trips to Virginia Beach, camping at Allegany and Letchworth State Parks, completing "playground challenges" with my kids, visiting the zoo, Science Museum, family in Rochester, Olcott Beach Carousel, and enjoying time with friends and family. What a memorable summer!

I currently live in Wheatfield near Niagara Falls with my wonderful husband Mike, and our two amazing kids, Annabella and Max. I graduated from SUNY Buffalo with my Master's in Art Education K-12 in 2012, from Daemen College with my Bachelor's in Visual Arts Education and Psychology in 2009, and from Niagara County Community College with an Associate's in Fine Arts in 2006. Starting this fall, I will be volunteerting as a Relgious Education teacher for 5th and 6th grade students at my Church, and I am excited to bring my love for teaching there as well. I am a Disney F-A-N, so I strive to create a "magical" art room where students of all talents feel safe and excited to make their own artworks. Much of my inspiration also comes from the amazing Tennessee art teacher, Cassie Stephens, who you might have seen on Netflix's "Nailed It!" this past spring!

Thank you for continuing to make me feel so welcome in your district family! Here's to 2019-2020!
