About Me: Hello, I am Mr. Steele and I am the Medina High School band director. I am the director of the High School Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble. I also give group and individual instrumental lessons to all band students in grades 8-12. In addition to those duties I am also the Director of the Medina Mustang Marching Band which also includes the Varsity and Cadet Winter Guards.
I have been teaching in Medina since the fall of 1992. I hold my Bachelor’s Degree from Hobart College (1989) and my Masters in Music Education from Ithaca College (1995). Throughout my career in Medina I have been very fortunate to have had great success with both the marching band programs as well as the concert and jazz band programs. Our band travels all over New York State to compete in the fall and have been crowned State Champion in multiple classes in 1983, 1989, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. The top bands at the high school also travel to many festivals to compete in the spring and have brought back top honors many times.
I am blessed to be a part of the tradition that was established long before I came to Medina in 1992. The staff, Mustang Band Boosters and members of the band program have a strong sense of pride to represent the school and community that supports us year in and year out.
With having so many of your children in the marching band program I see and talk too many of you on a regular basis. For those parents of children that are members of the Concert Band or Wind Ensemble that do not participate in marching band, I want you to know that I am always available to field questions. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
Outside of school I live in Brockport NY with my wife (Terry) and 2 children (Kailey and Robert). I enjoy all kinds of sports, traveling and playing my trumpet professionally in various bands and for school musicals around the area.
I look forward to working with you and your child in “bringing the music to life” throughout their musical career at Medina High School.
