I know many families have questions about what the typical school day will look like at Oak Orchard should we return to the building this fall.
Here is a general idea for you:
Buses will arrive between 7:35 and 7:45. Any students being dropped off should not arrive before 7:35. (Morning Pre-K will be 7:35am-10:00am, afternoon Pre-K will be 11:00am-1:35pm)
Students will have their temperature taken before boarding the bus. These students will enter the building upon arrival. Students who walk or who are dropped off will have their temperature screening before entering the building.
Upon arrival in the classroom, as usual, students will place their belongings in the designated area. (K students will have individual cubbies, other grades will keep belongings at their desk)
Breakfast will be served in the classroom for all students.
Students will remain in their classroom for the majority of the day with their classroom teacher. Desks are spaced 6 feet apart and students will have space to stand at their desk as needed.
Students will continue to learn according to NYS Learning standards in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
In class learning will include using computers and individual workbooks.
There will be an emphasis on Social and Emotional Learning as well. Counselors will be in each classroom weekly to support students' well-being.
Any students receiving support services such as AIS, speech, OT/PT, etc. will receive them in the classroom.
Physical Education will take place every other day for every classroom. This may take place outside, in the classroom, or gymnasium.
Recess is a scheduled component of the day. Each class has a scheduled time on the playground.
Students K-3 will have several choices for lunch each day. In K and 1st grade, students will have lunch delivered to their classroom. Grades 2 and 3 will eat in the cafeteria - only three classes at one time to maintain social distancing.
Students taking a bus will be dismissed first. Those students being picked up will be dismissed individually via the bus loop starting at 1:40. More details regarding pick up procedures will be released as soon as we have the Governor's decision.
If you would prefer to have your child participate in virtual learning, the day will look different. The assigned classroom teacher will provide remote instruction. We will know further details once we have the results from our survey and are able to determine staffing and student needs.
