Calling all kids ready for Kindergarten! Kindergarten screening will take place for the Medina Central School District at Oak Orchard Elementary School on Monday, May 8th, 2017.
Any student who resides in the district who will be five years old by December 1st is eligible to attend. All students must complete a screening process for appropriate placement. The screening will take approximately 45 minutes to complete and will consist of an academic screen (letters, numbers, shapes, etc.), health screen (vision and hearing), parent/guardian information session, craft activity, and a snack. The transportation department will be present to answer any questions you may have. Valuable resources will be shared with students and families to help them continue to prepare over the summer. An additional date will be available later in the summer for anyone who moves into the district.
Screening will take place between 11:00 and 3:00 pm. Students currently enrolled in the Pre-K program at Oak Orchard do NOT need to schedule a screening time. This will occur in class.
If you would like to sign up a student for the Kindergarten screening on May 8th, please call the Oak Orchard Elementary office at 798-2700 option 3.
Many of our students are watching a new Netflix series called "13 Reasons Why". This series is about teen suicide. It is very graphic, suggestive and sensationalizes the suicide of a teenage girl. Research shows that the risk of suicide increases among vulnerable persons when they are exposed to such content. Click here for a Talking Tips sheet to help you discuss the series with your child. Please reach out to the school counseling staff for additional support. If you, or someone you know, is struggling with thoughts of suicide please call the National Crisis Hotline at 1-800-273- TALK (8255) or text "START" to 741741.
